The Only Dance There Is    © Stephen Cox 1987

Verse 1      You look around, you see the clouds turn to rain:
Then  the waves come rolling in, then they turn to clouds again.
It’s all so simple, in an ordinary way,
You look out into the dark of night to see the light of the infinite days.

We move in silent time to an endless beat,
The mystery that lets us be till our dreams are complete.

Chorus        We do the only dance there is.
We’re given chance, and so we dance again,
                    And again, it’s easy
To do the only dance there is.
We take our chance with circumstance again,
                    And again, forever…

Verse 2       Extraordinary people, living for a day
Waiting for the promised light to show them all the way.
Their answer’s waiting for a question to appear,
Silence in search of sound to make its meaning clear.

But all those words that echo from ages past
Just illuminate the complications, 'till we are one at last.
